When we reviewed Total Attorneys way back in February, we walked away with a generally positive impression. Though the interface was less polished then its competitors, and though it lacked a couple of desired features, the bottom line was the bottom line: $1 per attorney.
The insanity just ended.
What was that price hike?
No clue. The email said that the site would be updated “very soon.” We checked, and checked, and checked. As of a couple weeks ago, still nothing.
Alas, while we were sleeping, Sam Glover at Lawyerist did the digging. Here is the new pricing scheme:
- $20/month for up to 2 users;
- $40/month for 3-10 users;
- Custom rates for anything bigger
It’s cheap. Cheaper than all of its competitors, in fact. However, for those of us who practice part-time, with only a handful of clients, it’s no longer a no-brainer.
Total Attorneys is a fine platform. However, it’s not as simple to pick up and run with as MyCase. It doesn’t have as many features as our corporate cousin’s Firm Central (review coming later this week) or as Amicus Cloud. And though the Total Attorneys team is constantly updating and adding features (since our review, they’ve added Google Sync for calendars, contacts, and tasks - well done!), everyone is constantly updating. Such is the nature of cloud-based software and perpetual updates.
At $1, coding bugs, billing rates buried in sub-menus, and missing features were completely understandable and excusable. Emailing technical support to remove an annoying “Address 2” line from invoices was worth it, for the cost. However, at $20, the platform better be as stable, easy to learn, and robust as the increasingly-fierce competition.
They have until January 1, 2014 to catch up to the competition for existing users, and now for new users.
