Ever want to hear how Google’s GC handles things at his shop? Headlining this year’s West Coast General Counsel Conference is none other than Kent Walker, the senior vice president and general counsel of the internet giant.
Google was recently named the “Best Legal Department of 2011” by the editors of Corporate Counsel. Walker himself has earned multiple distinctions while working at the helm of one of Silicon Valley’s biggest companies.
Google, as a global corporation, has worked on a myriad of legal affairs covering a wide spectrum of practice areas. There’s privacy, defamation, copyright and contract law to name a few.
Walker is an interesting case study unto himself He attended Harvard as an undergraduate and went on to Stanford Law School where he earned his J.D. He clerked at Howard Rice before spending five years as a U.S. Attorney. He started general counsel work on the staff of Air Touch Communications. He joined Netscape two years later, then Liberate, then eBay. He then went to Google.
The two-day conference will feature Walker as well as other leading in-house counsel from Levi Strauss & Co, Take-Two Interactive Software, and Intuit, according to Business Wire.
Conference sessions will vary, including sessions on project management, e-discovery, employment litigation, and others.
